Department to develop Manx Grand Prix
By: Malc Wheeler
The Isle of Man’s department of economic development is working with local organisations to develop a Manx Grand Prix Festival. The move follows an agreement made between the department and the Manx Motor Cycle Club for the department to take responsibility for the infrastructure, promotion, and commercial aspects of the Manx Grand Prix Festival and Races.
Work has already begun at the TT Grandstand and Paddock, with the aim of improving the experience for both visitors and competitors alike. The paddock will include more traders and caterers, and feature a marquee displaying the world’s leading collection of Suzuki race bikes of the 1970s and 80s, owned by Steve Wheatman. Classic race bikes featuring in the MGP Classic and Post Classic races will also be displayed prominently in pit garages throughout the fortnight.
Main sponsor of the event will be visitisleofman.com and a new Manx Grand Prix Festival website is planned for this year’s races, which will include live on-line timing for all MGP Races.
Mortons Media Group, publishers of Classic Racer and Classic Dirt Bike, The Classic Motorcycle, Classic Motorcycle Mechanics, Classic Bike Guide and Old Bike Mart, has signed a deal to be media partners for the Festival.
